A putting drill designed to challenge your distance, as well as start line skills.
This is a simple yet effective drill to improve your putting kills. It will help your distance control and your ability to change your start line as the putt increases in length. I am a huge believer in both Randomized, and Block practice. This particular drill is a form of randomized practice that forces you adapt to new variables as the putt get longer.
Start at approximately 3ft and set the next balls at 5ft, 7ft, and 9ft. You can always adjust these distance to increase or decrease the difficulty. Have Fun!
Leap Frog is a great drill to help with distance control!
This drill is specifically called “Leap Frog with Boarders”. The goal is to get several balls to go into a designated area and each one must go farther than the last. This drill is great for improving your distance control across the green.
** You must start over immediately if: any putt does not enter the designated area, or any putt comes up short of the previous putt. In order to improve your skills it is very important to hold yourself accountable to the rules. Have Fun!
This is a Putting Drill to Improve your short puts.
The “3ft. Ring” drill is designed to help you improve your short putt proficiency. Simply get as many balls (usually 8-10) in a circle around a specific hole. The balls should all be appox. 3ft from the hole for consistency. Your challenge is to make every putt that is in the circle. For an added challenge: Do this drill until you miss, meaning you may recreate the circle several times in a row until you finally miss. See if you can make 100 in a row!! Have Fun!
Start Line Practice Drill Using Tees.
Here is another great drill for improving your skill at hitting a Start Line. This one shows you how to effectively use tees as feedback. First start with a “Gate”, using two tees, approximately 15” to 18” inches away from your ball. Use a generous gap at first and slowly narrow your “Gate” as you gain confidence in your skills. Ultimately you should end up with a “Gate” that is 55mm wide at 15 inches. Have Fun.

Know how to control your distances across the green.
Distance control is essential for improving as a golfer. This drill, sometimes referred to as “Leap Frog”, is one of my favorites for mastering this particular skill.
Simply start with four balls. Chip the first ball a short distance, let’s say 10 feet onto a green. Each ball after must go farther than the previous ball until you run out of room, or a ball ends up short of the previous. In the latter case, you must start the game over. Ultimately, you want to get as many balls as you can into a specific area without starting over. Have Fun!

Sawgrass Country Club is Located in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. We have an Air Conditioned Golf Simulator with multiple, high speed, cameras that capture any angle of the golf swing. Additionally, on the range, we utilize several portable Launch Monitors (Full Swing and Flightscope) for capturing critical swing and ball data. The Short-game area is great for practicing all of the essential “scoring shots”. We are incredibly fortunate to have a world class facility to help our students develop every skill necessary for a complete golf game.
Here is a challenging, yet Fun, drill to help master those 3-5 footers.
Here is a challenging, yet Fun, drill to help master those 3-5 footers. Set the balls up in a “Compass Pattern” around the hole. Set the first ball at 3’ and then one more behind it, on the same line, typically within 2 feet of the first ball. Make the inner circle first then move to the longer putt. Try to do this without a miss, or just keep track of your misses. DO NOT take a “Do Over” for one that you miss. I suggest doing this drill multiple times around several different holes for the most benefit. Thanks for watching and Get Busy Improving!
